RS232 to Arduino

Dec 6, 2013 at 12:45 AM
Someone posted a link to this project on the Color Computer mailing list (http://five.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/coco) and I had to check it out since I had been toying with a Hayes AT command parser myself for a project.

Can't wait to check it out.

What is involved in wiring up an RS232 port to an Arduino? When I was researching, it seemed getting a MAX232 or similar chip was necessary?

The MAX237 chip has seven level shifters which is what you need to bring all of the control lines to RS232 levels. If you are only interested in Tx/Rx then there are shields already available and would work fine with the UNO version of Hayesduino.

MAX237 based Mega Shields are in testing and will be available soon.
